March gambling spending in Denmark increased 1.4% due to development
Online casino activity is once again the industry's top performer, according to the Danish Gambling Authority (Spillemyndigheden), which reported a 1.4% year-over-year growth in overall gambling expenditure for March 2025. Online casino revenue increased by 6.4% in comparison to March 2024, according to the regulator's most recent monthly numbers, maintaining the upward trend observed in prior months.
However, in keeping with a larger trend toward digital gambling channels, betting, gaming machines, and land-based casino activity all saw slight decreases.
Additionally, land-based bingo is included in the monthly statistics for the first time as a separate gambling category in the March report. Operators licensed under Denmark's liberalized framework are now allowed to provide bingo on commercial terms as a result of regulatory amendments that went into effect on January 1, 2025.
The lottery sector continues to classify figures from charitable bingo businesses separately. Additionally, Spillemyndigheden just released its annual report, The gaming Market in Numbers 2024, which gives a summary of the activities in Denmark's regulated gaming sector.
With the channelization rate, or the percentage of gambling done through licensed operators, rising from 90.8% in 2024 to 91.5% in 2024, online gambling accounted for an increasing amount of the market. Denmark now holds the fifth-largest market share in the world for regulated online gaming.
A quantifiable rise in stakes was noted when Denmark played, according to the survey, which also looked at betting behavior during important athletic events like the UEFA Men's Euro 2024. Initiatives for responsible gambling, such as the StopSpillet assistance helpline and the ROFUS self-exclusion register, were covered in other sections.
Denmark implemented new licensing regulations for gaming providers earlier this year; compliance is required by July 2025. Online casinos accounted for over half of the DKK 7.27 billion in gross gaming revenue in 2024.
